Sumpah Pemuda, 28 Oktober 1928

Have you reviewed the matter, the movie or the like? if you have not, have you ever seen a movie or book reviewer? You can see an example of Review Text in newspapers featuring film reviews or book, as a picture of what's Review Text it.

Definition Review Text

Maybe some people have never even seen him. Review Text is one of the type of English text (genre) aimed at reviewing the work in the form of movies, books, and other objects to determine the quality, advantages and disadvantages that the work was intended for the reader or listener public.

Communicative purpose Review Text

Generic Structure Review Text

Each type of English text (genre) has its Generic Structure which vary according to the communicative purpose to be presented to the reader. And for Generic Structure of Review Text, there are 4 sentence structure, namely:

1. Introduction
Like any type of English text (genre) to another, on the first paragraph of a review text contains an overview of the work or material will be reviewed. An overview of the work or the object could be a name, usability, and so forth.

2. Evaluation

Generic Structure In the second, Evaluation, providing a detailed description of the work or material that was reviewed, could be parts of the work or object, uniqueness and quality. But do not give much description of the work or the object, as we review the text like "teach" the prospective buyers and it's not good. Evaluation of the work or in the object as far as needed by the buyer is the most correct. The term is used in the second paragraph of its structure is not far from the word "good" or "no" works or objects. In the evaluation section, usually consisting of more than one evaluation.

2. Many use the adjective (the word carpenter) like, bad, good, valuable, etc..
3. Frequent use of long clause (clause length) and complex.

Example of Review Text

Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix

Orientation

I absolutely love the Harry Potter series, and all of the books will always hold a special place in my heart.

Evaluation 1

I have to say that of all of the books, however, this was not my favorite.

Evaluation 2

Began the series when it was as much of a "feel good" experience as a huge mug of hot cocoa. The stories were bright, fast-paced, intriguing, and ultimately satisfying.

Interpretation

Order of the Phoenix is a different kind of book. In some instances this works ... you feel a whole new level of intensity and excitement by the time you get to the end. I was truly moved by the last page. Other times the book just has a slightly dreary, depressing feel. The galloping pace of the other books has slowed to a trot here, and parts of it do seem long, as if we're reading all about Harry "just hanging out" instead of having his usual adventures. Reading in detail about Harry cleaning up an old house, for example - housekeeping is still housekeeping, magical or no, and I'm not very interested in doing it or reading about other people doing it.

A few other changes in this book - the "real" world comes much more in to play rather than the fantasy universe of the previous books, and Harry has apparently been taken off his meds. I know that he had a lot to be grumpy in this book, especially with being a teenager and all, but the sudden change in his character seemed too drastic. He goes from being a warm-hearted, considerate person to someone who will bite his best friend's heads off over nothing. It just seemed like it did not fit with his character, like he turned into a walking cliché of the "angry teen" overnight.

Summary

The "real" story seemed to happen in the last third of the book, and this part I loved. I actually liked the ending (and yes, I cried!) As sad as it was. It packed a punch and it made me care about the story even more. Still a really good book, with some editing it would have been great.

"Discussion Text"

"Discussion Text"

Discussion Text, I personally know the argumentative essay, is one type of text that gives two opinions on a matter. Opinion was certainly exist in harmony and there is also conflicting.

When we talk about something, no doubt the discussion we have various arguments / opinions are diverse. So is the discussion text, this text has two different opinions: one, opinions are agreed and, two, an opinion that does not agree. Therefore we need to have a broad view of the matter if we want to make the text discussion.
For more details, let's discuss one by one what should we see in studying the text discussion.
Definition Discussion Text
Mentioned in the Merriam-Webster Learner Dictionary, the word "Economy" has two meanings. First, the act of talking about something with another person or a group of people: a conversation about something (Actions speak of a thing to another person or group of people). Second, a speech or piece of writing that gives information, ideas, opinions, etc., About something (speech or writing that provides information, ideas, opinions, etc. about something).
From the discussion in the second sense, meaning number two is better suited to the meaning of the text discussion. If concluded, the text meaningful discussion either a spoken or written text that provides information, ideas, opinions, about a thing.
Do you agree?
Generic Structure Of Discusssion Text
Simply put, the general arrangement of the discussion text is divided into 3 sections.
1. Issue (issue)
2. Arguments (Opinion)
       a. Points Supporting (Opinion in Support)
       b. Contrasting Points (The Contrary Opinion)
3. Conclusion / Recommendation (Conclusion / Suggestion)
Issue (Major Problems)
This issue contains the issue will be further discussed. If you want to write a text of this discussion, it helps to choose a topic of controversial issues so that you'll have a lot of arguments, good arguments in favor of or argument to the contrary. For example, the subject matter "Students Should Not Take mobile phones so as not to interfere with teaching and learning in schools".
Supporting Points (Opinion in Support)
At the points supporting this, we are required to elaborate further on the description of the problem we are discussing. If the Issue contains problems such as in the example above issue, then you have to explain in more detail about HP that could interfere with teaching and learning activities in schools.
Contrasting Points (The Contrary Opinion)
On the contrasting these points, it is good we give a different opinion with supporting points. If HP is considered a negative effect on students, then this section we shall give an opinion on the benefits of HP for students. For example, by giving the argument that HP could facilitate students in finding information on the Internet about the subjects being discussed.
Recommendation / Conclusion (Suggestions / Conclusion)
In this section, we try to take the middle ground on the issue being discussed so that the conclusions we draw no longer bring new problems. For example, in the HP above, we can give suggestions / conclusions by writing schools allow students to bring HP's origin is not activated when the teaching and learning taking place.
Well, that would be argumentative essay that you can learn. To clarify, let's look at the example below:
Example of Discussion Text
The Ban on Smoking in Public Places (Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places)
Smoking ban in public places has been a hot issue these last months not only in Malta but also in various countries who are discussing the effects a ban would have. There have been several debates on smoking ban. Even though the Harmful effects of smoking, both active and passive, are well known and undeniable smoking is far from being in decline; it is spreading among young people in particular Quickly.
Most controversial debate is going on public smoking ban. The reason is simple, smoking ban affects directly all people rapidly and we can see its effects in a short-term period. There have been a lot of arguments brought up both in favor and against a public smoking ban. Some in favor of the arguments are the following. Smoking ban is one of the controversial ways for Recognizing reducing smoking and non-smokers' right to health protection. The health risks of smoking are clear. Passive smoking does carry risks. Many leading medical and scientific Organizations recognize second-hand smoke as a cause of a range of life-threatening conditions. The health situation could be drastically improved if one of the risk factors - tobacco - was eliminated. People have a right to Protect Themselves from smoke inhalation. People should not have to Inhale the ill-effects of other people's smoking. The creation of smoke-free public places also improves water quality.
Those Opposing a smoking ban say that freedom of choice would be affected by such legislation. Some people say that against a tire smoking bans damage business. A smoking ban could lead to a significant fall in earnings from bars, restaurants and casinos. Another argument is that the smoker has a basic human right to smoke in public places, and the tire is a Limitation for smokers' rights. Businesses, smokers, publicans, tobacco industries, stars, and some of the non-smokers oppose public smoking ban. Smokers light a cigarette Because they need to smoke, not Because they want it, Because nicotine is physically addictive. Therefore, some smokers think that the public smoking ban is oppressiveness. They see the ban as a treatment to smokers as second-class citizens. Smokers agree that the smoking ban benefits the world, but can not support the ban, Because effects of nicotine obstruct them.
Public smoking ban needs to be measured and Understood better. Smokers should not be made to look like the Outcasts, but smokers should respect non-smokers when sharing places. I agree that completely smoke-free places are the ideal, and some businesses have taken the decision to go completely smoke-free. However, everyone agrees that, it is a matter of rights - the right of smokers to smoke versus non-smokers from passive smoking to protect and to breathe clean air.

There are two kinds of flour, soft and hard. Hard flour, made of winter wheat, is a better choice for making bread because it produces bread that has a better texture and taste. Then, lukewarm water, yeast, sugar, and salt are mixed with the flour to make dough. Yeast is a microscopic organism that is capable of producing carbon dioxide. It can make the dough rise or expand. Both sugar and salt give flavor to the bread so that it tastes nice. They, however, have different effects on yeast. Yet, she did not listen and went on climbing all sorts of trees. Years went by, and she had grown up. By now she was an expert in tree climbing. Her parents grieved. “Who will marry a rough woman?” said her mother sadly. “We will make use of the situation,” her father replied. “I will offer half of my kingdom and the princess hand in marriage to any man who can beat her at tree climbing”. After the king’s offer was announced, the palace was soon swamped with souitors who could climb trees. Most of them were terrible; only a few were good. The princess then said, “Never mind, father. Now, let me set a test, and perhaps a good suitor can be found.” Then, she turned to the suitors and asked, “Do youa agree that you were beaten fairly?” “No,” they all roared. “We think it was magic or some sort of trick.” But one said, “Yes. I was beaten fairly.” The princess was touched by the man’s honesty. She smiled and turned to her father. She pointed to the man and said, “If he likes me, I will marry him.” It turned out the suitor also liked the princess. Then, they decided to get married and lived happily ever after. In other words, the writer discusses each point, then gives a detailed information or evidence to support it. o Arguments against Is negative arguments or in disagreement with the issue. Each stage of the argument also consists of a point and elaboration. A point is made and the elaborated. In other words, the writer discusses each point, then gives a detailed information or evidence to support it. o Conclusion/recommendation The closing is a brief summing-up of the issue explored or the writer’s own opinion. - - The grammatical features related to discussion texts o Relating verbs o Thinking verbs o General nouns o Abstract nouns o Conjunction o Modality o Adeverbial manner - - This is the following example of the discussion text: Pandemic There are differences of opinion on the avian flu. Some say this could claim 150 million deaths, but others believe the current alarm on avian flu to be unwaraanted as there is no proof it can spread between humans. According to the chief coordinator of the United Nations, 150 million people could die form the disease if a pandemic strikes. One of the most frightnening aspects of a human flu pandemic arising from avian influenza would be its unpredictability. It’s difficult to estimate the death toll should the H5N1 virus mutate into a form that could be easily transmitted between humans. It is not possible to predict whether a pandemic would occur once, or if it would repeat. However, epidemiologists recommend that governments take every possible precaution against the threat of bird flu seriously. Contrary to all the dire predictions about an avian flu pandemic, some ecologists dismiss the current panic as unsubstantiated gues work. One ecologist contends that H5N1 virus still remains a bird virus and no scientific evidence yet exist of human-to-human transmission. There are billions of people across Asia, and only 118 of them have been infected by avian flu. So, how do they know that 150 million or more people could die because of avian flu? The global panic, according to the ecologist, is the result of “scare tactics” created by politicians, medical officers and the media. It’s premature to predict the outcome of avian flu until health scientists confirm the possibility of human-to-human transmission. The advice is to keep cool and not panic because if you do, you will weaken your resistance and reduce your immune system. ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICES Verbs are normally classified as either Active or Passive Vocie. Active and passive voice each has its own advantages. Active voice is a direct voice. This is the voice we normally use in our daily life. However, active voice has some verbs that cannot be transformed into passive voice. For example, we can say “She has a dress” but we cannot say “A new dress is had by her”. Again we say “Mike lacked courtesy but not “Courtesy was lacked”. On the other hand, we find excessive use of passive voice creates a sense of protection and avoiding responsibility. For example, “The alcohol ads on the billboard were designed to inspire children to take up drinking”. The burden rests on the “ads”, whereas the word “we” in “We designed the alcohol ads on the billboard to inspire children to take up drinking” is the responsible party. Be careful not to mix active and passive voices in the same sentece. “The board of directors approved the budget, and the expenditure for next year’s meeting was revised” should be written “The board of directors approved the budget and revised the expenditure for next year’s meeting”. example: Active voice --> Someone locked the front door from the inside. Passive voice --> The front door was locked from the inside (by someone).
